When to visit

Nepal is a destination for all seasons. Each time of year brings its own colours, traditions, and atmosphere. If you'd like to visit for trekking a particular region or for a festival, then it's important to plan ahead.

Spring (March – May)

Warm days, cool nights, and hillsides glowing with rhododendrons.

  • Celebrate Holi (festival of colours) and Bisket Jatra (Nepali New Year in Bhaktapur).

  • Ideal for heritage sightseeing, gentle trekking, and rural escapes.

  • Perfect balance of culture, nature, and clear mountain views.

Summer & Monsoon (June – August)

The land turns lush and green, alive with agriculture and festivals.

  • Experience Ropain Jatra (joyful rice planting festival).

  • Fewer tourists, with a slower, more intimate pace of travel.

  • Best for cultural immersion in the Kathmandu Valley and heritage towns.

  • (Note: Rain can affect rural roads and long drives.)

Autumn (September – November)

The most celebrated season in Nepal: clear skies and festivals everywhere.

  • Join in Dashain (Nepal’s biggest festival) and Tihar (festival of lights).

  • Crisp air makes heritage tours, wildlife safaris, and village stays especially rewarding.

  • The whole country is at its most vibrant and festive.

Winter (December – February)

Quiet, authentic, and beautifully clear mornings.

  • Celebrate Maghe Sankranti (mid-January), welcoming the sun’s northward journey.

  • Fewer crowds at UNESCO World Heritage sites — explore Patan, Bhaktapur, and Bandipur at their most peaceful.

  • Cool evenings, but comfortable for city stays and cultural exploration.

Best Seasons for Cultural Travel: Spring and Autumn, when Nepal’s grandest festivals unfold and the weather invites exploration.
