Reasons to Visit Honduras

Honduras is a country of contrasts with lush mountains, vibrant coastal towns, and archaeological wonders. With its rich history, abundant wildlife, and friendly communities, it rewards those looking for both adventure and cultural discovery. Combine your visit with nearby Guatemala or El Salvador for an epic Central American journey.

Honduras can be visited year-round. The dry season (December–April) is ideal for beaches and wildlife spotting, while the rainy season brings lush scenery, fewer tourists, and excellent birding opportunities.

  • Best for: Mayan archaeology, jungle trekking, diving and snorkelling, birdwatching, and off-the-beaten-path exploration.

  • Getting there: From London, flights usually connect via Miami or Panama, around 13–15 hours total to San Pedro Sula.

  • Entry requirements: UK passport holders require a visa; check FCDO advice before travelling.

Honduras Highlights

From the Journal

My journey in Honduras

I recently returned home from an incredible trip in Honduras. It exceeded all expectation, in particular the warmth and hospitality of the communities we visited. I loved visiting my first Mayan temple too, at Copán. Scarlet Macaws calling from the trees, and free to explore the site, with so few other tourists the whole experience felt very special. I'd highly recommend visiting!
